About
Hello! I’m Sandy Winkelman, an artist based in Santa Fe, New Mexico. My passion lies in exploring the natural world through art, using pyrography—an intricate technique of burning designs into wood with a pen-like tool—as my primary medium. I bring my creations to life with watercolor, adding depth and vibrancy to each piece.
My work blends the natural and the imaginative, finding inspiration in the rich colors and cultures of the desert Southwest, the precision of 19th-century scientific illustrations, and the boldness of tattoo art. I love combining these influences with portraits and character studies to craft unique and expressive art that feels alive with possibility.
Each piece begins with a loose sketch of a subject, evolving through compositions that use negative space to add complexity and flow. By incorporating abstract and organic patterns, I strive to create art that is both captivating and deceptively simple.
At the heart of my work is the goal to inspire wonder and joy, leaving viewers with a lasting impression and a sense of curiosity about the stories behind each subject.
Thank you for visiting, and I hope you enjoy my creations. If my work resonates with you, please share it with others!
